A pixel art converter that keeps the details
Most picture to pixel art tools simply shrink your image, which blends every edge into a muddy in-between color. BeadBun looks at each pixel block, finds its dominant color, and keeps small dark details like eyes, mouths and outlines that a plain resize would erase. The result reads like pixel art drawn by hand, not a blurry thumbnail.
Photo to pixel art in five steps
Whether you start from a photo, a drawing or any other picture, turning it into pixel art works the same way:
- Upload a picture with a clear subject and crop it to the part you want.
- Set the width in pixels. Height follows the picture's proportions.
- Limit the colors: 8–16 colors gives the classic retro look.
- Remove the background for a transparent PNG of just the subject: automatically, or with the magic wand.
- Fix any pixel with Paint, Erase and Pick color, then download.
Picture to pixel art, and on to beads
Pixel art translates perfectly into fuse beads, cross-stitch, knitting charts and LEGO mosaics. To build it with Perler, Hama or Artkal beads, use the Perler bead pattern maker. It uses the same engine but matches every pixel to a real bead color. Already have a sprite? Try pixel art to Perler beads.
