Tips for easy Perler bead projects
Every pattern on this page is chosen for being forgiving. These easy perler bead patterns for beginners use five colors or fewer, have mostly solid areas and avoid single stray beads that are hard to place. The Skull uses two colors, and the Black Cat, Clownfish, Candy Cane and Happy Star Face each use three.
If you are teaching kids, start with the smallest boards. The 9×11 Candy Corn and 11×9 Bumble Bee take a few minutes to fill, so younger children finish before they lose interest. Older kids can move on to the Panda Face or Fox Face, which are bigger but still only four colors. Work row by row from the top and the pattern stays easy to follow.
Simple perler bead patterns are also the best place to practice ironing, since a mistake costs you ten minutes rather than an hour. Iron with parchment paper, keep the iron moving in small circles, and lift a corner to check that the beads have fused before you stop. Our beginner's guide walks through the whole process, including what supplies to buy first.
Once you are comfortable, try changing colors: open a design like the Smiley Face in the pattern maker and recolor it to match a favorite team or a friend's favorite color. It is an easy way to make a simple pattern feel like your own.
