Tips for bird Perler bead projects

This is a small collection so far: a Penguin, an Owl and a Baby Chick. All three are compact, which makes these bird perler bead patterns good for keychains and magnets. The 10×10 chick is one of the smallest designs on the site, about 2 inches across once ironed.

The Penguin is the easiest, with four colors and big solid areas of black and white. The Owl packs seven colors into 14×14, so take your time with the face and use tweezers if your fingers feel too big for the detail. If you like the penguin, there is also a Penguin with Scarf in our winter patterns.

Birds are a natural fit for spring decorations. A handful of chicks makes a cute Easter basket filler or a garland, and an owl works on a back-to-school pencil case or locker magnet. Try recoloring the chick in the pattern maker to make a duckling with a brighter orange beak, or turn the owl into a snowy owl with white and light gray.

Bird Perler bead pattern FAQ

Which bird pattern is best for beginners?+

The Penguin. It uses four colors and has large solid areas that are easy to fill.

Recolor one of these in the pattern maker. The chick works as a duckling and the owl can become a snowy or barn owl with different browns and whites.
