Tips for fruit Perler bead projects
Bright, simple and easy to recognize, fruit perler bead patterns are a good middle ground between beginner and detailed work. The Watermelon Slice is the simplest at five colors, while the Kawaii Avocado uses eight for its pit, flesh and skin.
Reds and greens are what you need most. The Strawberry and Cherries lean on red with green for the leaves and stems, and the watermelon adds rind greens and dark seeds. If your strawberry looks flat, adding a lighter red highlight bead or two near the top gives it a rounder look. You can try that in the pattern maker before you start placing beads.
Fruit designs are a natural summer project. The cherries at 15×13 make a cute pair of earrings if you rebuild them with mini beads, and the watermelon slice is great for picnic-themed magnets or a set of coasters. A fruit garland, with a strawberry, cherry pair and watermelon slice repeated along a string, makes a quick kitchen or classroom decoration.
Stop ironing once the beads just fuse, since over-melting can blur small details like seeds. For more summery designs, browse our summer patterns.
