Tips for winter Perler bead projects

Winter perler bead patterns are handy because they stay up longer than Christmas decor. The Snowman, Snowflake, Penguin with Scarf and Hot Cocoa Mug all look right from late November through February.

The Snowflake (23x23, 3 colors) is the classic choice for ornaments and window hangers. Make several, add a loop of fishing line, and hang them in a window at different heights. The Hot Cocoa Mug makes a fitting coaster, and the penguin and snowman are good as gift tags or magnets on a winter-themed fridge.

White beads on a white table are hard to see, so work on a colored surface or under good light. Snow designs need some contrast too: a pale blue or gray outline helps white shapes stand out. You can try a clear or glitter bead for the snowflake, or change the snowman's scarf color in the pattern maker to match a family member's favorite.

Snowflakes have thin arms that can come apart if under-ironed. Fuse both sides until the beads are joined firmly, and check the ironing guide if pieces keep breaking. For December designs, see the Christmas patterns.
